If you’re thinking about implementing an SEO strategy to generate more search engine traffic to your site, it’s important to think about the SEO objectives of EVERY page of your website, whether you’re considering a new website or want to improve your existing website.

That’s right.

I said EVERY page of your website.

Because every page of your website should be uniquely key worded to pull its own weight and attract search engine traffic to its unique offerings.

Many people, owners as well as web designers, make the false assumption that everyone who visits their website will come in through the home page.

They will not. And this is a good thing.

Because if you have a 10-page website, you should think of it as having 10 home pages! Each page will have a job to capture search engine traffic that attracts prospects to your business. Isn’t having 10 pages pulling traffic better than one page pulling traffic? Yeah, like ten times better!

Here’s what you need to know to get your fair share of search engine search traffic…


First of all, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

Simply put, SEO is the process of making sure your website is associated with certain search terms that someone would likely use while using a search engine such as Google or Yahoo to find the products or services that your business has to offer. Obvious enough, right? But the methods to achieve this are not nearly as clear.

To do this, your web site and web pages must contain the keyword phrases that people are looking for.


In short, your SEO strategy should be to try and anticipate how people would be conducting their searches. They won’t necessarily be looking for your company by name but rather by the products and services you offer. Think benefits.

For instance, a potential dental patient might search for “cosmetic dentistry” (the service) not the name of a specific dentist. If you are a dentist who offers cosmetic dentistry services you would want your dental practice to come up in the search engine results for that keyword phrase.


To take our dentist example a step farther, it won’t do a dentist in Detroit, Michigan, much good to come up in the search engine results for the search phrase “cosmetic dentistry” for someone searching in Las Vegas, Nevada.

By associating geographical “qualifiers” to your search engine strategy, such as “cosmetic dentistry Detroit”, you can ensure that only searches for “cosmetic dentistry” with the word “Detroit” attached to it will cause your website to return in those results.

So as you go through your website, page by page, consider what unique product or service is discussed on each page and SEO it for that subject matter. And if you have the luxury of creating a brand new site, use SEO to help you organize the pages accordingly.
